OBJECTIVES: Understanding how to use Framing as a compositional guideline. INTRODUCTION
Framing, in photography, means placing an additional object, or objects, in the foreground of the picture for aesthetic purposes. The object does not have to completely surround the main subject.
A foreground object provides a point of reference.
It gives a sense of distance and comparative size.
It can hide elements which detract from the main subject.
It is aesthetically pleasing, and gives a feeling of completeness to the picture.
“A tree, a doorway, a window, or even a gap in a fence positioned around the subject can create a frame within the picture’s frame.” (Joy of Photography)
What is the subject? Where is the subject? Where should the viewer look? What is important?
For this assignment, your subject is open to anything you like, as long as you are using the compositional guideline of FRAMING for your composition.
You can use your camera in LIGHTROOM MOBILE IN PRO MODE (you need to shoot DNG) or a DSLR camera. SHOOT as MANY PHOTOS AS YOU NEED. You are required to SUBMIT 30 IMAGES. Remember set your White Balance to AWB and your ISO to 400. You can raise your ISO up to 800 if your available light is not that strong. You can lower your ISO if you have a lot of available light. Change your shutter speed (SECS) to capture the correct exposure. Make sure your shutter speed does not go lower than 1/60.
Do some research. Google framing in photography examples, or click on the link above. Look at the samples you find. Go out and create your own images. Experiment with different positions and angles.
