Students will create functional and sculptural pumpkin forms using the pinch pot method. Two pinch pots will be joined to form a hollow sphere, which will then be shaped into a pumpkin. A lid will be cut and fitted, and surface details will be added to enhance texture and realism. This project builds skills in form, craftsmanship, and glazing.
OBJECTIVES:
Learn and apply the pinch pot method to create a hollow, symmetrical form.
Create a hollow pumpkin form using two pinch pots.
Design and fit a functional lid that aligns with the form.
Use additive and subtractive sculptural techniques to transform pinch pots into a pumpkin form.
Experiment with texture and glaze to enhance surface quality and realism.
Understand basic ceramic terminology and the clay process (wet → leather-hard → bisque → glaze → final firing).
Students will be able to understand the materials and processes associated with ceramics art and use in a safe and responsible manner.
Use glaze or underglaze to enhance realism or artistic interpretation.
Demonstrate craftsmanship, creativity, and proper ceramic techniques.

WHAT TO DO:
You will create a pumpkin with a lid. Must be constructed with the pinch method.
Create two pinch pots and join them to create one larger pumpkin. Use slip and scoring to properly join them.
Minimum height requirement for the pumpkin is 6 inches.
You must create a lid. Carve out a lid along a natural groove, add a stem handle, and refine edges for a neat fit. You can fit the lid upside down in your pumpkin to smooth out evenly.
Your pumpkin must have a foot.
Be creative with your pumpkin stem.
Add texture and details to enhance the realism. Research pumpkins and gourds, look at the various shapes, textures and colors. Use tools to carve pumpkin ridges, leaf designs, or textures.
