WHAT IS A PINCH POT? A pinch pot is a simple form of hand-made pottery produced from ancient times to the present. The pinching method is to create pottery that can be ornamental or functional, and has been widely employed across culture. The method used is to simply have a lob of clay, then pinch it to the shape desired.
OBJECTIVES:
Understanding pinch pots: Students should learn what pinch pots are, how they are used, and their history.
Learning techniques: Students should learn basic hand building techniques, such as wedging and slip joining.
Considering form and function: Students should think about the form, texture, color, and function of their finished piece.
Demonstrating proper procedures: Students should learn how to safely and properly use materials and tools.
Evaluating their work: Students should be able to review their work and say what they think and feel about it
Imaginative play: Students use tools to create textures in clay.
Observation and investigation: Students watch demonstrations and view examples.
Safe procedures: Students learn how to use materials, tools, and equipment safely.
Art vocabulary: Students use art vocabulary to describe their choices.
Craftsmanship: Students make neatly formed pinch pots.
Texture: Students create texture or "carvings" on the pinch pots.
WHAT TO DO:
Make sure pinch pots are not too thin but still create a hollow form to start with. If they are too thin, it will make it hard to attach facial items.
You can add texture to your monsters/critters/creatures.
